Airlie House was the home of the Pembroke Jones family. The gardens were started in the 1890s and from 1906-1937 the German gardener Rudolph A Topel (who had some connection with Kaiser Wilhelm) worked on the estate. With Sarah Jones he made a naturalistic landscape camellias and azaleas.
