Arkhangelskoye

Gardenvisit Editorial

A late eighteenth century estate on a bank sloping down to the Moscow River. The garden terraces were designed by Trombaro and a stone staircase leads down to a great meadow. Nikolai Karamzin, a Russian historian, wrote that 'The Russians have a feeling for the beauty of nature, and they know instinctively how to enhance it. Take, for example, the village of Arkhangelskoye'. There is a monument to Pushkin and a colonnaded mausoleum.
