Agecroft Hall Gardens

Gardenvisit Editorial

Agecroft manor house was built on the banks of Irwell River in Lancashire, England in the late 15th Century, sold at auction in 1925, and rebuilt on the banks of the James River by Thomas C. Williams, Jr. [See Additional Information]. The Tudor garden was designed by Richmond landscape architect Charles Gillette (1886 to 1969). There is an knot garden and a John Tradescant garden. Little was known about renaissance English gardens in the 1920s, and not much more is known now. Agecroft Hall is just down the road from Virginia House.
