Harlow Carr is well-planted but has more of the character of a public park than a well-designed garden. However, this may be set to change now the garden has come under RHS ownership since the merger with the Northern Horticultural Society in 2001. RHS Garden Harlow Carr is set in a valley. There is a woodland garden, a herbaceous garden, rock, bog and alpine gardens.
