I am not sure what evidence of this history is still visible in the landscape, architecture, streetscapes and urban layouts etc. Supposedly there were Roman gardens at the time it was a settlement. Did any of these original plantings or layouts survive? I am not sure if Castleford has a Roman museum? Also the Banyan tree seems to figure prominently in the area. Do you know why this might be?
